About

Hi, I’m Su-Lynn. I’ve been asked numerous times to help plan a friend, relative, or coworker’s honeymoon/vacation in the Aloha State since I have been there so many times. I started this blog so that friends and family could read about our experiences traveling to Hawaii (and beyond)…maybe it could help with their vacation planning, or even just for a couple of laughs.

Steve and I on Keanae Peninsula on the lush Road to Hana on Maui. Read about that trip here.

This website is also designed to be a journal of travel memories, trip reports, photographs, trip planning notes, and dining experiences. I am a former freelance photographer so I definitely pepper my trip reports with lots of pictures. My real 9-5 job is working in finance as a Business Analyst. My husband, Steve, and I lived for many years on the Upper West Side of the greatest city in the world, New York, but we bought a house and now call the suburbs of New Jersey home. We love to travel, especially to Hawaii – that’s why I titled this blog “A Splash of Aloha“. I know we could all use a little more “Aloha” in our daily lives. You will mostly find information on our trips to Hawaii, but I also want to showcase some of our other travels (and good eats) as well.

Snacking on fresh tuna and tako (octopus) poke at Ono Seafoods on Oahu.

We like to do a mix of luxury and budget on our travels, and find a good combination of relaxing and activities on our trips. I get incredibly seasick so you won’t ever find me on a sunset cruise or snorkeling excursion, but we find other ways to get our adrenaline.

If you’ve never been to Hawaii, or are just not into the “planning” stages of your vacation, my blog can be a good starting point. I’ll try and offer up some insight as to what islands to visit, experiencing luxury on a budget, the activities we love to do, and dining adventures that shouldn’t be missed. I’m by no means an expert, but since I love to talk about Hawaii, I might as well shut up and write what I know all down, right? Hopefully you will find the tips on this blog helpful, and/or maybe you can share some of your own tips along the way! I’d love to learn about restaurants I’ve never been to, hidden photo ops, and some of your must-dos. 🙂

Though this is not a miles and points blog, I do try to obtain a free flight or hotel night here and there. I don’t try and open every single credit card or do crazy mileage runs, I’ll leave that to the pros and just do what works for us and the type of vacations we want to take. I’ll give advice on how I booked these flights or hotel nights as part of my posts when relevant. It definitely helps us save money to travel further and experience a little bit of luxury!

Traveling in Thai Airways’ Royal First Class to Bangkok, on our way to Bali. The entire itinerary was booked using United Airlines miles.

Hope you decide to stick around!

We don’t always go to Hawaii…this was taken in Disney World

Disclaimer: I’m not Hawaiian and do not live in Hawaii (sniff), therefore  my recommendations I post here are just based off of my own personal travel experiences. I am not responsible if you don’t like my picks, get food poisoning, food coma, any sort of heat-related activities such as heatstroke, sunstroke, sunburn, or any water-related accidents such as a leaky flotation device, box jellyfish stings, and iphone drownings. Also if you DO happen to live on Hawaii – well then you are very lucky, and I’d love to hear from you. Please do tell me of some good LOCAL eats…none of the stuff in the guidebooks, thanks!

Thanks for reading,

Su-Lynn
